Newark Express Chugging To Vermont

December 18, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Vermont Frost Heaves News Release

South Burlington, Vt.-The Vermont Frost Heaves, 11-2 and ranked No. 2 in the American Basketball Association's latest power ratings, return to Burlington's Memorial Auditorium this Thursday, Dec. 21, for a 7:05 p.m. meeting with the Newark Express.

The Express are replacing the Brooklyn Wonders, which have been suspended by the ABA for failure to meet league obligations.

In their last Burlington appearance the Frost Heaves scored a 95-93 overtime defeat of the defending champion Rochester Razorsharks, Vermont's rival in the ABA's Blue North Division.

The Frost Heaves will welcome as the Northfield Savings Bank 110% Community All-Star the police chief of the City of Burlington, Tom Tremblay. A former player at Mount Mansfield, Chief Tremblay has been a fixture on the local basketball scene for years, whether playing in men's leagues or coaching girls in the Vermont Cats AAU program. At halftime, Ilze Luneau and her basketball magic act will entertain the crowd.

On Friday, Dec. 22, the Frost Heaves will move down Interstate 89 to host Quebec City at the Barre Municipal Auditorium in another 7:05 tip. The Kebekwa are much improved since their last visit to the Aud, having integrated former ABA All-Star Manix Auriantal into their lineup. Last week "les Kebs" grabbed home victories over two teams in the Top 10 of the power ratings, Strong Island and Rochester. Pro golfer and former University of Vermont point guard Libby Smith will be Friday's NSB 110%-er.

For tickets, go through the Flynn Regional Box Office at 153 Main Street in Burlington or 159 Pearl Street in Essex, or call 802-86-FLYNN or flynntix.org. Tickets for games in Barre are available for purchase in person at the Barre Opera House during regular box office hours, Tuesday through Friday, noon to 5:30; and at First in Fitness in Montpelier.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
