Home cooking leads to win for Wildcats
December 18, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
San Diego Wildcats News Release
San Diego, CA. After playing two road games in the last three nights, the ABA San Diego Wildcats were eager to return home for Sunday's game against the struggling Big Valley Shockwave.
Energized by the home crowd, the Wildcats came out roaring and pounced on the visitors with an 11-4 run. Lead by Malcolm Battles and Cardel Butler, better known as "Ballaholic" of the And 1 Mix Tape Tour, the Wildcats (7-3) stayed ahead of the competition all night en route to a 107-98 victory.
"The guys wanted this game badly," said Wildcats GM Bill Tosheff. "They felt like they let one slip away the night before in LA and wanted to come out strong. They wanted to make sure this game didn't come down to the wire."
Butler led all scorers with 23 points and Battles had a season high 15 rebounds.
On Saturday night, the Wildcats suffered a 96-94 loss to former Utah Jazz Byron Russell and the Hollywood Fame, a team owned in part by pop singer Nick Lachey. Although the Fame outsized the Wildcats, San Diego kept the game close and trailed 51-50 heading into halftime.
