San Diego Wildcats News Release

(SAN DIEGO, CA) Citing personal reasons, Dr. Marty "Doc" Glisson announced that he is resigning from the American Basketball Association as of this week, which includes stepping down from his position as the Chairman of the Southern California Division. The volunteer ABA position held the responsibility of monitoring and ensuring that the requirements of the ABA were met by the teams in the SoCal Division.

"I think it best to gain my health back and spend more time with my family at this stage of my life, while pursuing other endeavors," says Glisson, who was stricken in 2008 with a severe case of bacterial pneumonia. Glisson was regarded as a friend and up-and-coming executive within the league. He was designated as the 2009 runner-up for Executive of the Year honors, and his Knoxville Thunderbolts were awarded second place as Franchise of the Year for the entire ABA.

Up to the time of his illness, Glisson served as a full-time consultant as of December 1, 2008 for the Thunderbolts after his brother Chris and the Crossroads Entertainment Group took over the team. Upon escalation of the pneumonia, Glisson was forced to relinquish his responsibilities in mid-February of 2009.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
