March 7, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
The Corpus Christi Rayz were held to just one third period shot on Friday Night against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. But for the Rayz, one was all they needed. Adam Hogg scored the game-winning goal late in the third after redirecting a Chris Mei shot to help the Rayz beat the Mudbugs 3-2. Rayz goaltender Jason Tapp did his job at the other end of the ice turning away 37 of 39 shots. The win for the Rayz pulled them within two points of Amarillo, who lost on Friday and kept them four points back from Austin who beat Oklahoma City. The Rayz return to home ice on Saturday, March 8th at 8:05 for Texas Pride Night, presented by Andrew's Distributing when they face off against the Odessa Jackalopes. Tickets are on sale now. In the first period, the Rayz took a 1-0 lead after capitalizing off of a Mudbug mistake. Brent Howarth forced Bugs defenseman Jake Ortmeyer in front of his netminder, and poked the puck free into the skates of Mudbug Goaltender John DeCaro. Joe Blaznek tipped the puck into the net and the Rayz took a 1-0 lead at 12:38. Just over a minute later at 13:40, Jason Campbell scored a rebound goal with an assist from Karlis Zirnis. The teams went into the intermission tied at 1-1.
In the middle frame, Bossier-Shreveport's Chris Brassard notched a shorthanded goal 55 seconds into the period putting the Mudbugs up 2-1. The goal was assisted by Dale Lupul. Later in the period, Corpus Christi tied the game 2-2 with a wrap-around goal from Nick Lindberg at 14:50 with helpers from Joe Blaznek and Jon Jankus. The game stayed tied for the rest of the period.
The fans witnessed an exciting third period. Both teams went without a score until 17:04 left in the game. A shot by Rayz defenseman Chris Mei was redirected by Adam Hogg sending the puck into the back of the net. Kevin Watters was credited with the other assist. The Rayz hung on to the lead and beat the Mudbugs 3-2.
