SteelHounds Tame The Rage, 6-3

Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage fell to the Youngstown SteelHounds, 6-3 Friday night at the Broomfield Event Center. Youngstown's Mark Odut scored a hat trick in the effort, helping to end a five home game winning streak for the Rage.

Both teams are in contention for one of the Central Hockey League's top five Northern Conference playoff spots. The Rage continues to sit in a first place tie with the Colorado Eagles in the Northwest Division with a 34-17-5 (73 points) overall record. The SteelHounds advanced to 33-19-4 (70 points) to remain in second place in the Northeast Division and extend their winning streak to four games.

Youngstown took the early lead scoring back-to-back goals by forward Odut. Jason Baird earned an assist on both goals and Tyler Wooddisse added a helper on the first tally. Jeff Genovy extended Youngstown's lead to three goals at 13:34 by scoring with a wrap-around move and stuffing it by the right post over the goal line. Rocky Mountain started a rally two minutes later with a powerplay goal by David Morelli and ended a three-game powerplay goal drought for the Rage. The team remained in second place in the league in powerplay goals entering tonight's game however (23.2%). At 16:41 heading into the first intermission, Bryan Lachapelle extended Youngstown's lead back to three goals with a shot from just inside the blue line along the left wing.

For the lone goal in the second period, Odut earned a hat trick on a breakaway opportunity at 14:39 to put Youngstown up 5-1.

The third period belonged to the Rage as they outshot the SteelHounds 15-3. The Rage continued to rally with another powerplay goal at 8:53 by Daymen Rycroft and an even strength goal by Jeremy Garrison at 17:31 cutting Youngstown's lead to two. The effort was not enough as time ran out. Chris Richards added an empty net goal in the final 16 seconds to seal the win for Youngstown.

Rocky Mountain returns to action tomorrow when they host the Mississippi RiverKings at the Broomfield Event Center for the only time this season.
