Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Immediately following their third and final exhibition game of the pre-season schedule, the Rayz announced their 2006-2007 team captains, and introduced a special fan section at the American Bank Center. Rayz center, Matt Turek was named the 2006-2007 captain of the Rayz, with Jason Baird a full-time alternate and Blair Stayzer and Geno Parrish switching out as alternate captain in home and away games. Additionally, the Rayz announced an all-new "Crazy Rayz" Fan-zone at the American Bank Center.
Turek is spending his first season in Corpus Christi, but the 11-year veteran has experience wearing the captain's jersey. Two seasons ago, he captained the Lubbock Cotton Kings to their first ever division title. Baird is spending his third season in Corpus Christi and was the team's MVP two seasons ago. Stayzer, also in his third year with the Rayz, has been a fan favorite in Corpus Christi since his arrival in South Texas. Parrish is making his Rayz debut this season, but is one of two veterans on the Rayz roster this season.
The "Crazy Rayz" Fan-zone will be a home for the most die-hard, rabid Rayz fans at the American Bank Center this season. The "Crayz Rayz" Fan-zone will hold 100 fans and half of the section has already been sold. Members of the "Crazy Rayz" will include many "old-time hockey" fans that have been Rayz supporters since hockey came to Corpus Christi nine years ago. Many of these fans have long been part of the Rayz hockey tradition, including Joe Kramer, who was the originator of throwing live sting rays on the ice after Corpus Christi goals. Fans can expect more traditions to begin this season, as the excitement overflows in the "Crazy Rayz" Fan-zone all season long. The Rayz are still looking for some of their biggest, and loudest fans to be part of this special section. For more information, please call the Rayz at (361) 814-PUCK.
The Rayz return to the American Bank Center is only 5 days away. Corpus Christi will begin their season at home on Saturday night vs. the Laredo Bucks at 7:05pm. Ticket packages and corporate sponsorship opportunities are currently available. For more information please call the Rayz at (361) 814-PUCK or log on to www.ccrayz.com.
