ORLANDO - The Orlando Rays (25-29) opened the home stand against the Chattanooga Lookouts (25-30) with a 4-3 win on Saturday night at Cracker Jack Stadium. The Rays have taken five of their last six games.
Matt Diaz continued his hot hitting with a strong night at the plate. Diaz had four hits including a double in his first at bat and an RBI single in the O-Rays three-run fifth inning. Amado German also showed power at the plate, hitting a solo homerun to lead of the game. German added a single and scored two runs on the night.
The Rays starting pitcher Doug Waechter earned the win bringing his record to 5-3. The St. Petersburg native allowed two runs on eight hits in seven plus innings pitched. Evan Rust pitched a scoreless ninth for his tenth save of the season and fifth in eleven games.
Chattanooga pitcher Dustin Moseley (4-3) pitched seven innings allowing four runs on eight hits. Moseley had six strikeouts on the night.
The O-Rays will play game two of a four-game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts, tomorrow at 1:35 p.m., with RHP Bobby Basham (3-4, 3.76) pitching for Chattanooga, while the Rays counter with RHP Matt White (0-0, 7.20).
