JACKSONVILLE, Fla. â The Southern League of Professional Baseball announced that Jacksonville Suns outfielder Tarrik Brock was honored as BC Powder Southern League Hitter of the Week for May 23 â May 29.
Brock earned this honor by hitting .440 (11 for 25) with eight RBI and six runs scored. During the week, he recorded five extra-base hits with four doubles and a home run. For the week, the 29-year old rang up a .720 slugging percentage and a .533 on-base percentage.
A Southern League veteran, Brock was originally drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the June, 1991 draft and spent two seasons with the Suns in 1995 and 1996 while with the Tigers organization. He is also the only player on the Suns 2003 Opening Day Roster with major league experience, playing in 13 games for the Chicago Cubs in 2000.
Through Saturday night's game, Brock is leading the team in home runs (8) and RBI (36) and is second on the team in batting average (.288).
