Mobile BayBears News Release

Huntsville, Ala. – The Mobile BayBears' struggles continued as they dropped two games to the Huntsville Stars on Sunday afternoon. Game one was the completion of the postponed game at Hank Aaron Stadium on April 25th. Game two was the regularly scheduled contest for the day.

When the rains came in April, the game was a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh. As play resumed Sunday, Chris Rojas took the mound for Mobile and, on the first pitch he threw, gave up a solo homerun to Brandon Gemoll. That run was all that Huntsville would need as the BayBears were blanked through the final three innings, falling to the Stars, 1-0.

Cory Stewart started game two for the BayBears and was great through four innings, allowing only a first inning run and two hits while striking out six. In the fifth, however, he would run into trouble. The first seven batters he faced in the frame reached base on five singles, a walk and an error. In all the Stars scored five runs in the inning on six base hits, all against Stewart.

Trailing 1-0, the BayBears loaded the bases as Jon Knott led off with a double followed by a pair of walks to Yamid Haad and Vince Faison. With two outs, Stewart helped himself with an RBI single to tie the score.

Knott would later add his 13th homerun of the season, which leads the Southern League. The homer trimmed the Stars' lead to 6-2 in the sixth inning, but that would be all of the scoring for Mobile for the day. The BayBears left the bases loaded in the fourth and the eighth stranding 11 runners all told in the game.

Huntsville added a single run in the bottom of the eighth off of reliever Bryan Gaal on three hits to win the game 7-2.

The BayBears and Stars will resume their series Monday at 7:05 at Joe W. Davis Stadium. LHP Roger Deago (4-2) will get the start on the mound for Mobile.
