South Carolina Stingrays News Release

North Charleston, SC - The Kelly Cup Champion South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Cail MacLean announced today that defenseman Zach Tarkir has signed with the team. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Tarkir, 25, spent a majority of last season with the Portland Pirates of the AHL, but returns to the Stingrays after playing in 24 regular season games for the club. The 2003 New Jersey Devils draft pick scored one goal and seven assists for eight points with South Carolina. Tarkir also appeared in all 23 playoff contests for the Stingrays earning 15 points (5g, 10a) as the team claimed their ECHL-record third Kelly Cup title.

"We're very excited to have Zach back this year," MacLean said. "His skating ability and offensive skills make him a high-end defenseman in the ECHL. Zach elevated his game and was instrumental to our success in the playoffs last year. We look for him to continue along that path this year."

The 6-foot-1, 189-pound Fresno, California native also spent time with Lowell and Trenton before coming to North Charleston. Prior to turning pro, Tarkir played for four seasons at Northern Michigan University accumulating 49 points (14g, 35a) in 151 games.
