Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have signed center Jason Silverthorn for the 2009-2010 season.

"Jason has matured as a player in Europe and brings exceptional playmaking abilities to our lineup. Ideally he can develop great chemistry with some of our top goal scorers and continue to produce and make major contributions at the ECHL level," said Chiefs vice president and general manager Bill Bredin.

Silverthorn has created quite a name for himself with his experience through different leagues and teams. After finishing his college career at Elmira College, Silverthorn made his professional debut in the SEHL with the Winston-Salem T-birds where he appeared in 33 games, put up 13 goals and 18 assists, and was signed mid-season by the San Angelo Saints (Central Hockey League).

Silverthorn played for a variety of European teams over the last three seasons creating his name and will make his ECHL debut with the Johnstown Chiefs this season. In 2007-08 with the Cardiff Devils of the EIHL, Silverthorn put up some of his highest career numbers to date (42 GP, 22 G, 24 A, 46 Pts, 16 PIM).

Although Silverthorn missed time in the 08-09 season with the Cardiff Devils due to a shoulder injury, he came back full force and "Played an important part in taking the team to the Playoff Finals," one weekend last April, said former coach Gerad Adams.

Silverthorn becomes the 18th player under contract for the upcoming season. He joins fellow forwards Sean Berkstresser, Brett Liscomb, Ryan Menei, Erik Felde, Matt Robinson, Torren Delforte, and Jozef Sladok. Chiefs have also signed defensemen Bobby Phillips, Mike Knight, Greg Gallagher, Kyle Buschee, David Shulz, Brent Patry, Jim Jorgensen, and goalies, Kris Mayotte, and Jimmy Spratt.
