Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays scored all their runs in the seventh and eighth innings in a 7-5 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps in front of a sellout crowd of 6,003 Saturday night. It is the first sellout at C.O. Brown Stadium since 2000.

The Rays waited to fall behind 3-0 before tying it with three of their own in the seventh. The Whitecaps scored two more in the eighth to make it 5-3 before Southwest Michigan stormed back with four more to take a 7-5 lead that ended as the final.

Fernando Perez had a two-run single in the eighth to take their first lead of the night. He drove in three runs on the evening. Christian Lopez had three hits and drove in a run while Patrick Breen drove in two runs of his own.

Jarrad Lavergne was victimized by errors to allow three runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six innings. Lavergne allowed just one earned run because of a Reid Brignac error.

The sellout meant that Rays General Manager Martie Cordaro had to shave his head before the game. Despite a 41-minute rain delay, Cordaro went under the razor from Sandy's Salon.

The Devil Rays face West Michigan for the finale of the four-game series on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. LHP James Houser will start for the Rays against Whitecaps RHP Dallas Trahern. It's McCullough Family Chiropractic Sunday where kids 14 and under can run the bases postgame. Christian punk band Disciples Peak will play a post-game concert for free with the purchase of a game ticket.
