Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

FOX CITIES STADIUM -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers banged out a season high nineteen hits and beat the Cedar Rapids Kernels 13-5 in the completion of a suspended game from Friday night. Marshall Hubbard had four hits for the Rattlers. Six Wisconsin hitters drove in two runs during the game. Randy Frye got the win with three innings of relief in his first appearance since September 1, 2003.

Wisconsin (35-26) took the lead early in the game Friday. Yung Chi Chen doubled with one out in the first innning and Asdrubal Cabrera followed with an RBI double. Then, rain, wind, and lightning stopped everything with a runner at first and no outs in the bottom of the second inning.

The game restarted on Saturday afternoon with a Hubbard double into the right field corner. Brandon Green followed with an RBI grounder to put the Rattlers up 2-0.

The Rattler bats went single crazy in the bottom of the third inning. Wisconsin scored five runs on five hits -- all singles -- to take a 7-0 lead. Mike Wilson drove in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly. Hubbard, Green, and Sebastien Boucher, drove in runs with singles. The other Rattler run in the inning scored on an error.

Cedar Rapids (25-36) got on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Frye walked Sean Rodriguez. Rodriguez stole second base, went to third on an infield grounder, and scored when Frye threw wildly to first on a grounder back to the mound. But, that was the only run Frye allowed in the game.

The Kernels took advanatage of wildness by Rattler reliever Kendall Bergdall in the top of the sixth inning. Bergdall walked the first three batters he faced to load the bases. Aaron Peel drove in a pair of runs with a single, the first hit of the game for the Kernels. Warner Madrigal got the third run of the inning across the plate on a sacrifice fly to center and the Kernel;s.

The Rattlers added to their lead with two more RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth inning. Matt Tuiasosopo and Hubbard each drove in a run to put Wisconsin up 9-4.

Tommy Duenas hit a home run to start the Kernel seventh inning, but that was their final run of the game. Steve Grasley pitched the final three innings to record his first professional save.

The Rattlers tacked on two runs in the seventh on back-to-back RBI singles by Tuiasosopo and Hubbard. In the eighth, Mike Wilson and Tuiasosopo went back-to-back with solo home runs to cap the scoring.
