Odessa, TX (March 4, 2016) - The Corpus Christi IceRays (20-23-6) scored four goals in the first period and held on to beat the Odessa Jackalopes, 6-2, Friday night at Ector County Coliseum.
Stevie Bryant scored twice (3-4) in the first, and Andy McGlynn (6) and Carter Johnson (16) also tacked on goals to complete a four-goal first period for Corpus that ended Jon Flakne's night early. Derek Brown (10) lit the lamp for the Jacks on the lone power-play to extend his point streak to an NAHL long 15 games, assisted by Hampus Sjodahl to extend his point streak to 9 games. Odessa got outshot in the opening frame 19-5 and ended the period down 4-1.
In the second, Brad Power (9) potted his fifth goal of the season against Odessa and the only tally of the second to give the IceRays a commanding 5-1 lead.
Brendan Miller (5) added insult to injury with another IceRays goal in the third before Matt Rypien (4) jammed home a late Jacks tally at 7:21.
Dean Shatzer finished the game making 18 saves on 20 shots, but Flakne was charged with the loss (5-2-0) stopping 10 of 14 faced. Dryan McKay (10-9-2) was sharp making 24 saves to earn the win.
