PITTSTON, Pa - A four-goal first period aided the Johnstown Tomahawks in their defeat of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights 6-3 Friday night at the Revolution Ice Centre.
The Tomahawks started the scoring when Anthony Parrucci drove home a shot past Knights netminder Grant Valentine. Brendan Jaquay and Filips Buncis registered the assists.
Luke Lynch increased the Johnstown lead to 2-0 with his 25th goal of the season. Lynch deflected a Niko Coffman point shot past the blocker side of Valentine.
Jaquay added a goal of his own at 16:10 of the first period. Buncis picked up his second assist on the goal while Parrucci added the other helper.
Romano finished the goal scoring for the Tomahawks in the first period with his goal, just 42 seconds after Jaquay's goal. Casey Linkenheld and Lynch added the assists.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton gained the momentum back in the game in the second period with two goals from Zed Dietrich and Matt Beranek.
In total, the Knights threw 14 shots at Tomahawks goalie Andrew Lindgren in the second period.
Stephen Kelly brought the Knights back within one goal at 11:57 of the third stanza. His goal was assisted by Beranek and Dmitriy Zaitsev.
After a few minutes of back and forth hockey, the Tomahawks put the game away with shorthanded, empty-net goals.
Dante Suffredini potted the first at 18:49 of the third period and 10 seconds later Zak Galambos set the final score at 6-3.
Lindgren picks up the victory, his eleventh of the season with a 39-save performance.
The Tomahawks remain on the road Saturday, March 5 against the New Jersey Titans. The team returns to the War Memorial Friday, March 11 for Faith and Family Night. The Tomahawks invite fans to celebrate their faith with family & friends while helping to raise funds for the Laurel Highlands FCA. Faith and Family Night begins at 6:00 p.m. with an opening set from the Crucified band, followed by a word of Faith from the FCA organization. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
