Visalia Rawhide News Release
MODESTO, CA - For the second straight night, the Rawhide got to the Modesto bullpen to come back and earn a win. Tonight, Visalia plated three eighth-inning runs against submariner and held on to win 3-1.
Modesto (25-34) committed a pair of critical errors to extend the inning: one by shortstop Bryson Brigman and another by third baseman Joe Rizzo. After being shut out for the first seven frames, Visalia (31-28) took advantage.
Stephen Smith singled home both Pavin Smith and Luis Silverio to give the Rawhide the 2-1 lead and then, two batters later, Camden Duzenack reached on an infield single to score Smith and put Visalia up 3-1.
Submariner Jack Anderson (L, 1-3) did not surrender an earned run in the eighth, but was given the loss.
Wei-Chieh Huang set down the side in order in the eighth and then Tyler Mark (SV, 1), by virtue of a pair of strikeouts, survived a pair of singles and a passed ball in the ninth to strand the tying run in scoring position.
Kevin McCanna brought a return to form as he delivered seven strong innings, holding the Nuts to just one run on seven hits while striking out five. McCanna (W, 4-1) did not walk a batter and retired the final four hitters that he faced in a row.
The Rawhide received multi-hit nights from Stephen Smith and Drew Ellis, who doubled off the base of the wall in deep left field in the fifth for Visalia's only extra base hit.
Visalia (31-28) has now come back to win in back-to-back games, and earned a win when trailing after seven innings for just the third time this year.
The Rawhide look to secure a series sweep tomorrow and will send RHP Riley Smith (2-3, 4.12) to the hill against Modesto RHP Darren McCaughan (3-4, 2.04). First pitch is at 7:05 PM and the live radio broadcast will be available on rawhidebaseball.com.
