Rauch Walk-off Hit Wins It For \'Birds In 11

Aberdeen, MD - With a runner on third and one man out in the 11th inning, Austin Rauch blasted a ball to the left-center field wall to knock in the winning run for the IronBirds, as Aberdeen defeated the State College Spikes Friday night 3-2.

The Spikes took the lead in the second inning. State College loaded the bases with nobody out. Kelson Brown lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, giving the Spikes a 1-0 lead. IronBirds starting pitcher Tyler Sexton was able to wiggle out of the jam without allowing another run.

Joel Polanco tied the ball game up in the bottom of the second with one swing of the bat. Polanco (2) drilled a solo homer off the top of the visiting clubhouse in left field, making it a 1-1 ball game.

Aberdeen took its first lead in the game in the sixth. David Anderson led off the inning with a double. Blair Dunlap knocked him in with a double of his own, making it 2-1.

Sexton exited after the sixth. He allowed just the one run on four hits. He walked one and struck out six.

State College tied the ball game up in the seventh. Adelbarto Santos grounded a double down the right field line to get things going. He advanced to third on a wild pitch from reliever Jason Gurka. Gerlis Rodriguez knocked him in on a single to right field.

The game stayed tied until the 11th inning. Anderson led the inning off with a double. Zach Moore came in to pinch run. Austin Knight sacrificed Moore to third. Rauch drove him in on a ball hit to the wall to win it for the IronBirds.

Jesse Rasner (1-0) got the win. He pitched a scoreless 11th to pick up his first New York-Penn League win. Justin Ennis (2-1) took the loss.

The IronBirds and the Spikes will meet in game two of a three-game set on Saturday evening at Ripken Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
