Arizona Rattlers News Release
PHOENIX - After a dominant performance last week against Northern Arizona, the Arizona Rattlers are looking to get another victory in the Snake Pit and revenge against the Vegas Knight Hawks.
The game is on Saturday, May 27th, at the Footprint Center. Kickoff is set for 6:05 PM.
The Arizona Rattlers are looking to stay in the hunt out West, as they are currently 4-4 and tied with Vegas for the 4th and final playoff seed out West. Despite their slow start, Arizona still remains just one game behind the top seeds out West in Bay Area and Northern Arizona.
LAST WEEK
Last week, the Rattlers had their most dominant performance of the season. Posting a statement victory against in-state rival the Northern Arizona Wranglers, with a final score of 60-34. This game featured a homecoming game for QB Drew Powell who returned from IR the week prior in Vegas. He did not disappoint in his first game back in the Footprint Center, completing 17 of 21 pass attempts, and totaling 169 passing yards and eight total touchdowns.
This game also featured a fantastic performance for the defense, only allowing 2 first downs in the first half (11 total), and recording a season-high four interceptions by three different players, Dillion Winfrey(2), Javon Jackson, and Jarmaine Doubs.
Cecil Cherry, Chris Terrell, Justin Thomas, and Harold Love applied constant pressure in the front line for Arizona, forcing errant throws from the Wranglers' quarterbacks. The Rattlers hope to keep the defensive momentum going for this week's game.
WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS...
The Rattlers are hoping what happened in Vegas stays in Vegas. Two weeks ago the Rattlers traveled to Vegas to take on the Knight Hawks on their home turf. This game was a tightly contested game with neither team giving the other much room.
A costly interception at the end of the game allowed the Knight Hawks to run out the clock on their 55-54 victory over the Rattlers.
Arizona responded at home with a statement win over the Wranglers and are looking to avenge their loss to Vegas on their own turf and improve to 3-1 against Vegas all-time and 5-4 on the season.
CHASING HISTORY
Three-time MVP Drew Powell is just one rushing touchdown away from tying Bo Kelly (1996-99, 01-07) for the all-time leader in rushing touchdowns, and two away from sitting atop as the franchise leader in rushing touchdowns.
Bo Kelly had 81 career rushing touchdowns in his tenure with the Rattlers, and Drew Powell sits at 80 entering Saturday's contest.
