IFL Announces Week Ten Players of the Week

May 25, 2023 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

The Indoor Football League is proud to announce the Players of the Week for week ten of the 2023 XV season. Massachusetts Quarterback, Anthony Russo, is the Offensive Player of the Week. Vegas Defensive Back, Matt Elam, earns Defensive Player of the Week. Special Teams Player of the Week goes to Jacob Moss, Returner for the Northern Arizona Wranglers.

Anthony Russo - OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

After losing to the winless Iowa Barnstormers by 30 points in week nine, Massachusetts needed to right the ship in week 10. They didn't have time to lick their wounds as they were set to face a team near the top of the Eastern Conference led by the MVP front-runner. The Pirates had to learn what they could from the Iowa loss and focus on Quad City coming to town. Led by the stellar play of quarterback Anthony Russo, the Pirates did exactly that. Russo had the game of his career, throwing for 228 yards and seven touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown as the Pirates defeated the Steamwheelers 63-49.

Matt Elam - DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Things are warming up in Vegas. After two consecutive wins, the Knight Hawks are back up to .500 and are right in the thick of the packed Western Conference. Coming off a thrilling one-point week nine victory over the Arizona Rattlers, Vegas was set to host the Tulsa Oilers. Vegas played great football in all phases of the game. The Defense was especially stout, holding Tulsa to 32 points, their second lowest total of the season. Leading the unit was defensive back Matt Elam. Matt showed up with multiple game-changing plays. He finished the night with three tackles, two pass breakups and two interceptions.

Jacob Moss - SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

What was expected to be one of the better Week 10 matchups didn't turn out that way. The then 5-2 Northern Arizona Wranglers traveled to Arizona to take on the then 3-4 Arizona Rattlers. Arizona dominated from the start. However, Wranglers returner, Jacob Moss, did his best to keep his team in the game. After the Rattlers quickly went up 14-0 in the first quarter, Moss tried to swing the momentum back to NAZ by returning the kickoff 50 yards for a touchdown. The Rattlers would go on to win convincingly, but Moss still had a great night. He finished with nine returns, accumulating 166 yards and a touchdown.

The IFL returns to action on Memorial Day weekend with Sioux Falls at Iowa and Green Bay at Quad City, both on Friday at 7:05 p.m. CT. There are five games on Saturday Night, enjoy them all with the new INSIDE THE IFL LIVE viewing option starting at 7:00 p.m. CT.
