Rattlers Host Vegas as They Look To Clinch No. 1 Seed in West
July 8, 2022 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Arizona Rattlers News Release
PHOENIX - The six-time World Champion Arizona Rattlers will face the Vegas Knight Hawks on Sunday at the Snake Pit as they look to clinch the number one overall seed out West.
They are currently riding a 3-game win streak, including a massive 40-28 win over the Wranglers last week. This will be the Rattlers' final regular-season game, as they have a bye week next week to conclude the season.
Playoff Implications
Vegas will be anxiously awaiting the final score of the Duke City game on Saturday ahead of their matchup with the Rattlers. If Duke City wins, it would knock them out of playoff contention. If the Gladiators lose, then Vegas's playoff hopes are still alive. The Knight Hawks would have to finish the season with a victory over Arizona and hope for the Gladiators to finish 0-2 in their final two games to secure the 4th seed.
So far, all three Arizona teams (Rattlers, Wranglers, Sugar Skulls) have all clinched spots in the playoffs, though the seeding order is still up for grabs. The seeding could be finalized as soon as the conclusion of play on Sunday if the stars align.
Top Seed
A victory against the Knight Hawks would secure the Arizona Rattlers the number one seed in the West, regardless of how Northern Arizona finishes due to tiebreakers. This would allow Arizona to host the first two rounds of the Western Conference Playoffs, with the championship game being hosted in Vegas.
Round 2
This will be the second meeting between the Rattlers and Knight Hawks this season. In the first contest, the Rattlers overwhelmed the Knight Hawks on both sides of the ball, winning 67-20. In that game, quarterback Drew Powell threw for 5 touchdowns and 157 yards. Shannon Brooks also recorded 3 touchdowns and had over 90 total yards. The Rattlers' defense also forced four interceptions in the contest.
Finish Strong
The Rattlers' schedule will allow them to get some additional rest ahead of the 2022 IFL Playoffs, as they have a bye week next week. If they take care of business against Vegas, they will lock in the first two playoff games (should they advance) at the Footprint Center on Sunday, July 24th, and Saturday, July 30th.
