Rattlers and FSN Announce 2006 TV Schedule
January 24, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Arizona Rattlers News Release
PHOENIX - The Arizona Rattlers and Fox Sports Net Arizona have announced their partnership to televise six Rattlers games for the 2006 season, chief operating officer Blake Edwards announced today.
Fox Sports Net Arizona's local coverage will supplement the AFL's national television partnership with NBC Sports, which will show the Rattlers twice over the course of the season.
"We are exited to maintain our partnership with Fox Sports Net," said Edwards. "They have provided us with valuable exposure and will continue to do so."
Veteran broadcaster Kent Derdivanis will return for his seventh season as the radio and television play-by-play voice of the Rattlers. His experience includes time with the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Milwaukee Brewers. His resume also includes calling games for UCLA, University of Arizona, and Northern Arizona University football and basketball. In addition, Derdivanis has called the Rose Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl done play-by-play for Arizona Cardinal pre-season games.
"Kent has been a fixture of Rattler broadcasts for the past six seasons," said Edwards. "It is great to have someone that is as familiar with our game and franchise as he is."
Color commentary will be provided by former NFL long snapper, Dale Hellestrae. The seven-year veteran, who was played for the Dallas Cowboys (1994-2000) and the Baltimore Ravens (2001), will enter his first full season with the club. In addition to being a guest analyst on Rattler broadcasts the past few seasons, Hellestrae's radio experience includes being a color analyst for the NFL of Fox, NFL Europe, and the 2004 Insight Bowl.
The first Rattler game on Fox Sports Net Arizona will be the home opener versus the Austin Wranglers on February 3, which will kick off at 7:00 p.m. One other home game (Los Angeles) will air on March 24.
Four road games will be carried on Fox Sports Arizona: February 24 (Columbus), March 17 (Las Vegas), April 2 (San Jose), April 7 (Utah) - on tape delay, and May 12 (Colorado).
The Rattlers will kick off their 15th season in the 20-year-old Arena Football League on Sunday, January 29 on the road against the Los Angeles Avengers. The game is set to kick off at 1:00 p.m. and will be televised on NBC. Nine-game ticket packages can be purchased by calling 602-514-TDTD.
