Albany River Rats News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY-The River Rats erased a 3-0 deficit to force overtime, but after a scoreless sudden-death session the Binghamton Senators won the ensuing shootout 3-1 to earn a 4-3 victory Wednesday night at the Broom County Veterans War Memorial Arena.
The Senators scored the game's first three goals to chase goaltender Mike Murphy from the River Rats net, but Albany battled back in front of veteran backstop Mike Morrison. River Rats rookie Drayson Bowman put his club on the board with a power play rip at 6:09, less than a minute into Morrison's second appearance of the season. Jiri Tlusty made it a one goal game with a breakaway score at 7:42 of the third period to bring Albany to within a goal, and Nick Dodge knotted the game with an unassisted tally in the final 6:36 of regulation.
Kaspars Daugavins, Ryan Keller and Josh Hennessy scored on Binghamton's first three shootout attempts to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Bowman beat Senators goalie Mike Brodeur in the third round to keep the River Rats alive, but after a Martin St. Pierre miss in the fourth round, Broudeur denied Chris Terry to ice the game.
Hennessy drew first blood for the B-Sens at 17:49 of the opening period and Ryan Keller doubled Binghamton's lead just over a minute later on the power play. Brian Lee gave Binghamton a 3-0 lead at 5:22 of the second period to chase Murphy.
Brodeur stopped 38-of-41 shots faced in the game to earn the win, as Binghamton improved to 21-23-3-1 this season. Murphy stopped 11-of-14 shots faced in 25:22 of action, while Morrison stopped all 22 shots faced in 39:32 of ice time, but took the shootout loss. The River Rats out-shot the Senators 41-37 and went 1-for-5 on the power play, while Binghamton went 2-for-3 on the man-advantage.
Albany hosts the Hershey Bears this Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Times Union Center.
