Rascals Take Game Number One from Grizzlies

On the strength of three home runs, the River City Rascals downed the Gateway Grizzlies 4-2 Friday Night in front of 4,983 on Opening Night at GMC Stadium. It was the first of 18 games in the 2003 Sonic Crosstown Clash Series. The crowd was the largest ever at GMC Stadium. The Rascals got home runs Michael Conner, Brody Jackson and Alvin Morrow, handing Pete Buck his first loss ever to the River City Rascals. Buck went 6 2/3 innings allowing three runs, two earned on seven hits. He walked two and struck out four. Buck was 6-0 in 7 previous starts against River City. Greg Modica got the win for the Rascals. Modica went six innings allowing one unearned run on seven hits. He struck out seven. The Grizzlies picked up their first run in the fourth inning. Tony Coyne singled and scored on an errant throw by Modica. Gateway added their final run in the eighth. Doug Schutt led off the ining with a triple, then scored on a ground out by Kevin Lucas. The two teams will meet again Saturday night at GMC Stadium for a 7:05 start.
