Gateway Grizzlies News Release
The Gateway Grizzlies stranded 11 runners on base, including twice stranding the bases loaded Friday night, en route to a 9-7 loss to the River City Rascals. The loss played out in front of 4,522 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon, MO.
Jonathan Armitage put the Grizzlies (62-28) on top with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. His 16th home run of the year put the Grizzlies up 1-0.
River City (36-58) answered with three runs in the bottom of the first. Brad Hough hit a two-run home run and Angel Colon added an RBI to make it 3-1 Rascals. They never trailed after that point. The runs came off Grizzlies' starter Nathan Roush. Roush, starting on short rest, allowed five runs, four earned, on eight hits in just three innings of work. Roush did not figure into the decision.
Dustin Roberts doubled to score Mike Breyman in the sixth to even the score at 7. The RBI was Roberts' 73rd of the season, setting a new franchise record for the Grizzlies. Roberts was 1-3 with the RBI double.
Ryan Saltzgaber had a pair of RBIs for the Grizzlies. Ryan Sullivan was 2-5 with an RBI.
River City again had an answer. Ken Lup drove in a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to put the Rascals up 9-7. Lup finished the night 3-4 with three RBIs.
Chad Linder (3-3) earned the win in relief for the Rascals. He tossed three innings allowing just a run. Dave Wasylak (0-2) suffered the loss for the Grizzlies. Wasylak allowed three earned runs over 2.1 innings of relief.
The series shifts to GCS Ballpark for the final two games of the Frontier League's regular season. The Grizzlies and Rascals will meet Saturday night in Sauget, beginning at 7:05 p.m.
