River City Rascals News Release
O'FALLON, MO - Josh Lowey went eight innings and the Rascals blasted three home runs in a 6-2 victory over the Beach Bums Friday night in front of 2,134 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. The Rascals' win came in an hour and 59 minutes, the quickest nine inning game this season.
River City (46-35) plated three in the first with all three runs scoring with two outs. Chad Maddox and Ernie Banks both walked against Brett Bostelman (7-6), who then allowed a three run bomb to Ryan Wehrle for a 3-0 lead. Wehrle extended his hitting streak to 11 with the homer and tied his own season high of 11 straight games with a hit.
Josh Lowey (7-2) was fast and efficient on the mound, tossing eight innings allowing two runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Lowey used his defense as the Rascals turned two double plays behind the seven game winner.
Traverse City (37-45) got on the board in the sixth on a leadoff home run by Brandon McArthur to cut the lead to 4-1. The Bums made it 5-2 in the eighth on three hits. McArthur struck again with a single and went to third on a Mike Epping double off the wall in right. Michael Campbell then laced a two out single up the middle to score McArthur and Chris Colton fired a one hop throw to Danny Sawyer to catch Epping at home.
The Rascals added solo runs throughout the night to cushion the lead. Jorge Gutierrez launched his fourth home run in the sixth and added a sacrifice fly in the seventh for his second run batted in of the night. Scott Houin led off the eighth with his fifth blast for the 6-2 final.
Bostelman tossed seven frames in a losing effort, surrendering five runs (four earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
Three of the five Rascal hits were home runs with the other two hits singles by Banks and JoJo Batten. Banks extended his hitting streak to five games with a sixth inning single.
Josh Rose threw a scoreless ninth inning, striking out one and allowing one hit.
The Rascals are now 3-1 this season against the Beach Bums as the two teams meet again tomorrow night in O'Fallon. Quinn Monsma (NR) will make his Rascals debut opposite David Nathanson (5-9). Game time is at 7:05 p.m.
