Ogden Raptors News Release
OGDEN, UT - Coming off a sweep of the Pioneer League's cellar dwellers, the Ogden Raptors discovered quickly that they were no longer playing the Orem Owlz.
The Idaho Falls Chukars scored early and often and ended Ogden's five-game winning streak, 15-6.
The Chukars took advantage of the Raptors' season-high seven errors, making six of the 15 runs unearned.
Ogden did, briefly, have a lead. Idaho Falls scored two runs on a bloop single with two out in the first, and Matt Cogen matched that with a two-run blast to right in the home half.
The Chukars picked up three runs - two unearned - in the second, but the Raptors fought back in the third. Daniel Robinson reached on a line drive to left, and Cogen pulled a grounder through the right side. A groundout moved both up one base, and then Marcus Chiu grounded out to score Robinson. Ronny Brito swung at the first pitch and hit the ball through the left side, scoring Cogen. James Outman then hammered the ball down the right field line and Brito scored from first to tie the game. Finally, Andrew Shaps launched a ball off Raptor Ridge and Outman came across, putting Ogden on top 6-5.
Starting with the fourth, however, it was all Idaho Falls. The visitors scored twice in the fourth - both unearned thanks to two Raptors errors - and added single runs in the sixth and seventh.
The Chukars added two in the eighth and four in the ninth to put the game away.
The Raptors and Chukars play the second and final game of their two-game series Thursday night at 6:30.
