(OTTAWA) May 23, 2008 - The Ottawa Rapidz hosted the New Jersey Jackals for the second game of their opening homestand at Rapidz Stadium. The final score of the game was 9-4 in favour of the Ottawa Rapidz. The attendance for tonight's game was 2,561. The Rapidz offense exploded tonight scoring nine runs on sixteen hits in their first victory of the season.

Adam Hawes picked up his first win of the season for the Rapidz pitching a solid five innings (1 ER, 3 Hits, 4 Walks, 1 HBP) along with four strikeouts. The hurler put forth a solid effort for the Rapidz. After walking two hitters through two innings, Hawes settled in and struck out two consecutive batters to complete the third inning.

The Rapidz opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, with a double by Juan Infante, who later came around to score to make it 2-0 for the home team. The Rapidz continued their outbreak of scoring in the bottom of the third, thanks to Jose de los Santos, who singled and later scored in that ining. The Rapidz loaded the bases for Maxime Bouchard who walked to force in a run to make the score 4-0. The Rapidz added a run in the fourth and the sixth to lead 6-1. After two leadoff singles in the bottom of the eighth, Jabe Bergeron continued with an RBI single and Jereme Milons hit a 2-run triple to right-centre field, to give the Rapidz a lead of 9-2 after eight.

The Jackals runs came in the fifth inning after Ramon Nivar hit an RBI triple and Chris Kelly drove a sacrifice fly to centre to score a run in the seventh. The Jackals finished the scoring after Nivar hit a two-run home run for a final score of 9-4.

The Rapidz defense did their part to help in the win, turning a classic 4-6-3 double play to halt the Jackals momentum in the top of the fifth inning.

The Rapidz continued their achievement of team "firsts" in tonight's game. Juan Infante recorded the Rapidz first double and Jose de los Santos began their first double play in the top of the fifth. Jereme Milons recorded the Rapidz first triple, while Sambu Ndungidi scored the first run.
