Rapidz lose 4-3

(NASHUA, NH) The Nashua Pride loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning before scoring twice when Vinny Pennell walked and Ismael Castro singled to get the win on Saturday night, a 4-3 victory over the Ottawa Rapidz.

Juan Infante hit a lead off home run, his first of the season, to give the Rapidz an early lead. The Pride took that run back in the second inning. Jeremy Pickrel led off the inning with a single, reached second on an error, stole third base and scored on a throwing error by C Mike Muscato on the stealing attempt.

The Rapidz took the lead again in the fourth. Jake Daubert reached first on an error and advanced to second base on a single. The right fielder couldn't field the ball on the play advancing Daubert to third. He then scored on Pete Pirman's single.

Nashua tied the game at two in the bottom of the eighth on a single by Jeremy Pickrel scoring Ismael Castro.

The Rapidz responded in the top of the ninth. Mike Muscato singled to lead off the inning and scored on fielder's choice by Jose de los Santos after two outs.

Mike Kusiewicz was not involved in the decision despite a stellar performance. The veteran lefty pitched seven innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits and two walks. He struck out four batters and picked off two runners. His opponent Jarrett Stawarz was equally impressive, allowing two runs (one earned), nine hits and one walk in 7.1 innings. He also registered five strike outs. Newly acquired Jacob Ramos (3-3) took the loss, while Rich "El Guapo" Garces (1-0) collected his first win of the season.

The two teams will complete their series on Sunday, July 20 at 5:05pm. The Rapidz will send LHP Fraser Robinson (2-4, 5.57 ERA) on the mound to face RHP Jason Paul (2-1, 3.52 ERA).
