Rapidz fall to Jackals in debut

(OTTAWA) May 22, 2008 - The Ottawa Rapidz hosted the New Jersey Jackals for their first ever Home Opener at Rapidz Stadium. The final score of the game was 6-0 in favour of the New Jersey Jackals. The attendance at the game was 4,246.

The first pitcher for the new Ottawa Rapidz was Mike Kusiewicz, who put forth a solid effort in the loss. Kusiewicz pitched six innings (2 ER, 1HR, 2 BB, 3 hits) while striking out seven. The winning pitcher for the Jackals was Aaron Tressler, who threw six scoreless innings (0 ER, 0HR, 1 BB, 1 hit) while striking out five.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Jackals took a 2-0 lead after Ramon Nivar hit a towering homerun over the left field fence. Rapidz pitcher Kusiewicz answered back by striking out the side of the inning.

Noel Baca entered the game pitching a scoreless seventh, then at the top of the eighth inning, the Jackals got hits from Marcus Sanders and Zach Smithlin while the Rapidz committed three errors and hit a batter to make the score 6-0.

The Rapidz recorded some significant "firsts" in this game, which began at the top of the first inning with Mike Kusiewicz pitching the first strikeout against Francisco Leandro. In the bottom of the inning, Jared Lemieux hit the Rapidz first single to finish off the inning. Sambu Ndungidi picked up the Rapidz first walk and the first double was recorded by Juan Infante.

The next game for the Rapidz is Boyd Moving and Storage Ltd. Little League Night, which is scheduled for Friday, May 23rd in Ottawa at 7:05 pm against the New Jersey Jackals.
