(OTTAWA, ON) Wednesday, August 20, 2008 - The Nashua Pride got a solid performance from their pitchers en route to a 4-3 victory over the Ottawa Rapidz on Wednesday night at Rapidz Stadium, in front of a crowd of 2,116 fans.

The Pride took an early lead scoring twice in the first inning, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Aregenis Tavarez and a fielder's choice by Ismael Castro to score the runs. The visitors added one more run in the top of the fourth when Castro led off the inning with a double and scored on Jerod Edmonson's single.

The Rapidz closed the gap in the bottom of the fifth when Kyle Geiger reached home plate on a wild pitch by Hideki Nagasaka. Nashua took that run back in the top of the sixth. Mike Torres singled, reached third base on a single by Castro and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sandy Almonte. The Rapidz made it a 4-2 game in the bottom of the seventh. Jake Daubert singled, advanced to third on Pete Pirman's double and scored on Nate Hall's single. They completed the scoring in the bottom of the ninth with a walk, a batter hit by a pitch and a single by Jose de los Santos.

Tanner Watson (3-7) left the game in the third inning with an injury. In 2.1 innings he allowed two runs (both earned), on three hits, one walk and two strikeouts to suffer the loss. Nagasaka (8-5) gave his team a quality start, pitching for six complete innings. He allowed two runs (both earned), on six hits, two walks and struck out four batters. Adam Piechowski pitched in the ninth inning to earn his third save of the season.

Before the game, the Rapidz announced the signing of Dytarious Edwards. The Detroit, MI native will solidify the Rapidz infield as a potential shortstop. The veteran infielder brings seven years of professional baseball experience to the Rapidz. He played with the Cincinnati Reds and the San Diego Padres organizations in affiliated baseball. He is a .275 career hitter, with 528 hits in 1,922 at-bats. He also shows great speed with 154 stolen bases in career, including a high of 35 with Elmira of the Northeast League in 2004. The 6'1" and 170-pounder bats left and throws right. To make room for Edwards on the 22-man roster, the Rapidz placed the left-handed pitcher Jose Guanchez on their Inactive List. The lefty injured his left arm earlier this season and never could fully recover.

The two teams complete their series on Thursday night, August 21 at 7:05pm. Mike Kusiewicz (2-8, 4.60 ERA) will start for the Rapidz, facing Lance Stevens (6-6, 4.42 ERA) for the Pride.
