Skyhawks claim first with win

AUGUSTA, N.J. - *Sussex pitching kept the Quebec bats in check as the Skyhawks topped Le Capitales 4-2 on Wednesday night at Skylands Park. With the win, and Atlantic City's loss, the Skyhawks are now in first place in the second half standings of the Can Am League.

Kyle Ruwe (11-5) gave up one run on six hits over 6.2 innings. Roger Lincoln followed by striking out three of the four batters he faced in 1.1 inning of relief. Matt Petrusek pitched the ninth to get his 20th save of the season. T.J. Stanton (5-4) took the loss for Quebec.

Alex Frazier and Yohanny Valera each drove in runs in the bottom of the second to give Sussex a 2-0 lead. Ryan Crespi plated Valera with a double in the fourth to give the Skyhawks a 3-1 lead, and Matt Weston drilled a solo home run in the fifth to extend the Sussex lead to 4-1.

The teams return to action at Skylands Park on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. for the final game of the crucial three game series. There will be a fireworks display following the game.
