Colorado Rapids News Release
From the Press Box: Rapids Captain Pablo Mastroeni, midfielder Martin Morales and forward Jean Philippe Peguero all watched the Black and Blue's Home Opener last Saturday from a suite up high in the press box at INVESCO Field at Mile High. With this year's extended MLS Rosters, the league allows home teams to suit up only nine substitutes for each game. Under that consideration, Fernando Clavijo chose to have all healthy available players on the bench for the game that ended with a 0-0 tie against FC Dallas and allow the three regular starters that are nursing injuries to rest for another week. Mastroeni, who suffered a left hamstring strain in the game with the US National Team against Mexico, still performed with the injury during his performances against Guatemala and the Rapids game against Kansas City. Morales, who played 45 minutes against Kansas City suffered a left knee injury during the team's practice at INVESCO Field at Mile High Friday prior to the Home Opener. Peguero, who sprained his ankle three weeks ago and played 53 minutes against Kansas City, is still recovering from that injury.
Sign Here, You are In: Defender Eric Denton, who was claimed off waivers by the Rapids on Friday, April 8 at 3:00 p.m. (MT), was called into action for the Black and Blue just 29 hours after joining the team. The former Columbus Crew player came in as a sub for Cameroonian international Alain Nkong at half time of the 0-0 tie with FC Dallas.
Undefeated Streak: With the 0-0 draw against FC Dallas on Saturday's 2005 Home Opener at INVESCO Field, the Rapids have extended the team's undefeated streak at the Mile High pitch to 11 games. The Black and Blue have established a 5-0-6 record, outscoring their opponents 12-5. The Rapids' last loss at INVESCO Field took place 298 days ago, with a 1-0 loss against the Kansas City Wizards on Wednesday, June 9, 2004.
Rushing Back into the Country: English midfielder Terry Cooke, who signed a multiyear deal with the team on March 25, 2005 had to travel back home to get his work visa stamped at the US Embassy in England. With his paperwork in hand, Cook will travel back to Denver in the next 48 hours and should be ready to play in the Rapids match against Real this Saturday at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah, live on ESPN2.
Rapids Reserve Team Kicks Off 2005 Season: The Rapids Reserves will face their first opponent in the 2005 Reserve League this Saturday, April 16, when they take their counterparts of Real Salt Lake at Rice-Eccles Stadium immediately following the First team's match at 1:00 p.m. (MT). The Rapids Reserves will play a total of 12 league games during 2005, which will include home and home series against Real Salt Lake, Columbus Crew, FC Dallas and Chivas USA, as well as hosting the MetroStars and DC United in Colorado and battling New England and the Galaxy on the road.
