Colorado Rapids News Release
February marks Black History Month across the United States and the Rapids will aim to highlight voices of the Black community and continue conversations about systemic racism and injustices.
The Rapids will support MLS and EVERFI, the leading social impact education innovator, to kick off a league-wide Black History Month Challenge. The Black History Month Challenge provides middle and high school students a digital course on Black history, addressing racial injustice and economic inequality while celebrating important moments and facts about Black history that will inspire enduring conversations about race and allyship among young people today. Students who complete the course and submit an essay are entered into a contest for the chance to win prizes valued up to $20,000, including a $10,000 college scholarship. Students must be age 13 and older to participate in the essay contest.
The Rapids will also participate in an initiative by the Denver Office of Childrenüs Affairs to highlight 25 My Brotherüs Keeper honorees this month. These young men of color, who are ages 13-24, were chosen based on their work during 2020 that helped transform their community during an unprecedented time.
Finally, the Rapids will use February to feature the voices of our players, staff and front office as they reflect on Black History Month in the context of events in the past 12 months.
