COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Wednesday, March 16, 2011) - The Colorado Rapids announced today the signing of forward Caleb Folan. Per club and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Folan will be added to the club's roster pending receipt of his P-1 Work Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

Folan enters a new chapter in his career coming to Major League Soccer following 10 plus years of experience abroad. He began his professional career with hometown side Leeds United in 2001 after being in the club's youth system. Following loan spells with Rushden & Diamonds and Hull City, he played for English League Two club Chesterfield from 2002-07, playing in 102 league games and scoring 14 goals. He would then move on to Wigan Athletic during the 2006/07 and 07/08 seasons scoring two goals in 15 appearances.

In August 2007, Folan signed with English Football League Championship side Hull City becoming the club's first-ever =A31million signing. He played in 58 league matches for Hull City from 2007-11 and scored 12 goals for the Tigers. During the 2009/10 season, he also spent a loan stint with Middlesbrough.

Folan has seven caps with the Republic of Ireland National Team, where despite being born in England he qualifies via his grandparents.

Folan impressed the Rapids during a trial stint with the club during their 2011 preseason where he appeared in three games scoring the game-winner in a match against the LA Galaxy on February 16.

The Rapids open defense of their 2010 MLS Cup championship this Saturday, March 19, when they welcome the expansion Portland Timbers to Dick's Sporting Goods Park at 7 pm MT.
