Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Friday, September 14, 2012) - The Colorado Rapids announced on Friday that the team has acquired Chris Klute, a 22-year-old defender with experience on the United States Youth National Teams, on a one-year loan from the Atlanta Silverbacks of the NASL. The back, who can play centrally or on the right, is expected to be available to media following the team's practice on Monday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
"Chris is a good young player, and we're excited to bring him into the group," said Rapids Technical Director Paul Bravo. "He has shown a lot of potential and our staff is looking forward to seeing what he can contribute at this level."
Klute signed with the Atlanta Silverbacks in June, and has played in all 12 of the team's matches since, playing the full 90 minutes in his 11 starts and notching one assist. The Grand Prairie, Texas native had played previously with the Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves of the NPSL in 2011 and 2012. He played college soccer at Furman University and Clayton State University, and was a member of the Dallas Texans youth soccer club.
The defender was part of the United States Under-17 National Team as they qualified for the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup and at the tournament in South Korea, making a total of seven appearances and scoring one goal for the team. He also made two appearances for the U.S. U-20 National Team.
The Rapids take on the LA Galaxy tonight, with live television broadcasts on Altitude and Univision Deportes, and on radio in Denver on Mile High Sports and ESPN Deportes. The next Colorado home match is on Sunday, September 30 against the Galaxy, with tickets on sale at 303-825-GOAL and www.ColoradoRapids.com.
