Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush went to their fifth shootout of the season on Wednesday night, and for the fifth time this year, the Rush were unable to pick up the extra point. Leading the way on the ice was Colorado Eagles goaltender Andrew Penner who made 37 saves in the victory.

It didn't take long for the Eagles to find the back of the net for their first goal at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Ed McGrane put the Eagles on the board off of a rebound as Konrad Reeder and Jay Birnie assisted on the play. The Rush answered with a powerplay goal at the 15:21 mark of the first as Jon Pelle picked up his second in a Rush uniform. Pelle scored off of a rebound on a shot from Chris Di Ubaldo from the point as Gio Flamminio also added an assist. The two teams headed to the first intermission tied at 1-1. Colorado held a 13-12 edge in shots.

Rapid City then grabbed their first lead of the game off of the stick of Chris Lipsett, his first goal in six games. The powerplay goal was set up by a Rich Hansen pass from behind the net with Flamminio picking up the second assist. Colorado answered less than two minutes later with a shorthanded goal from Aaron Schneekloth.

Neither team could score in the 3rd period or in overtime as the game went to a shootout. The Rush came into the contest having lost in 4 previous shootout contests, 2 of them to the Eagles.

Colorado kept it that way as Kevin Ulanski and Ryan Tobler scored while Penner held the Rush off of the board to seal the win.

Rapid City was 2-10 on the powerplay, while holding the Eagles scoreless on 5 chances. Final shots were 39-29 for Rapid City.

The Rush take on the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Friday and Saturday, both games are scheduled for 7:05. Tickets are still available for both contests.
