Bucks Fall In Rowdy Shootout 2-1

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 2-1 in a shootout Thursday night at the American Bank Center. The Bucks six game winning streak was snapped as they fell to 16-5-1, but they gained one point to take over first place in the Southern Conference over Odessa with 33 points.

Laredo has picked up points in 12 of their last 13 games.

The Ice Rays (8-9-2) scored on three of their four attempts in the shootout, as Ryan Bennett picked up the game-winner for Corpus. Dustin Traylen set aside all three of Laredo's shootout attempts to pick up the win.

Ryan Gibb stopped 47 of 48 shots in net for the Bucks, as he fell to 6-1-1 on the season.

Ryan Salvis tied the game up for the Bucks 5:04 into the third period, as he hammered in a rebound from the left crease past Traylen. The tally was Salvis' third goal in the last two nights for the Bucks.

Laredo thought they won the game with 58 seconds left in overtime on a rebound in front of the Ice Rays net. The official waved the goal off, then a wild scene took place on the Laredo bench involving a couple of fans and the Bucks players and staff. Security had to eject three Ice Rays fans for allegedly throwing water onto the Bucks bench, and then going after the players.

The Bucks (5-2-1 on the road) and Ice Rays played to a scoreless first period, with Laredo being outshot by Corpus 14-10. Each team came up empty on two power-plays in the first 20 minutes.

The Ice Rays would jump out in front of the Bucks as they struck on the power-play at the 12:11 mark of the second.

Veteran Chris Richards tallied his team-leading 14th goal of the season, as he knocked in a rebound from the right side of the crease past Ryan Gibb. Richards has scored a goal in four straight games for Corpus.

The Bucks failed to score first for just the eigth time in 22 games so far this season.

Laredo had trouble staying out of the penalty box in the middle period, as they were whistled for four minor penalties. The Ice Rays went one-for-four with the man advantage in the period.

The Bucks were outshot 22-5 in the middle period, with Gibb stopping 21 of 22 shots.

Laredo was outshot for the game 49-34
