
Rangers Trounce the Steelheads 7-1

Kitchener, ON: The Rangers (31-12-4-2)ÃÂ exploded for seven goals against the Steelheads (23-24-3-1) on the Aud on Friday night. The final was 7-1.
Declan McDonnell picked up his first career hat trick in the win. Other goal scorers included Riley Damini, Michael Vukojevic, Reid Valade, and Greg Meireles.
Jacob Ingham stopped 39 and earned himself the second star.

It was the Rangers who struck first early in the opening frame. A drop pass from Mike Petizian to Declan McDonnell (13) at the top of the faceoff circle led to a rocket of a shot that went between the post and crossbar of goaltender Kai Edmonds to make it 1-0 at 2:32.
Joseph Serpa earned an assist on the opening goal
The Rangers extended their lead at 4:26. A pass in front by Jesse Fishman to McDonnell (14) led to the rookie scoring his second of the night on a tip-in to make it 2-0.
Isaac Langdon also picked up a tally on the insurance marker.
Mississauga's Thomas Harley took an interference penalty at 15:54. On the ensuing powerplay, Riley Damiani (21) took a low, mid-range shot through traffic the beat Edmonds to extend the Rangers lead to 3-0.
Greg Meireles and Liam Hawel picked up assists on the captain's goal.
The shots at the end of the first period were 14-8 in favour of the Steelheads.
At 13:06 of the second period, McDonnell (15) completed the hat trick when he picked up a rebound at the side of the net and buried it to extend the lead to 4-0.
Axel Bergkvist and Serpa picked up the assists.
Just over two minutes later, at 15:10, the Rangers scored a shorthanded goal. From behind Edmonds' net, Reid Valade saw Michael Vukojevic (4) streaking towards the net and the defender made good on the opportunity to make it 5-0.
The second assist went to Justin MacPherson.
The Blueshirts extended their lead at when Reid Valade (18) buried his own rebound to make it 6-1.
Hawel and Axel Bergkvist picked up assists.
At 18:58, Mississauga got on the board. Cole Schwindt (25) capitalized on Ingham being on his back from a previous save and the centreman scored to make it 6-1.
After 40 minutes, shots favoured the Steelheads, 29-20.
The Rangers extended their lead at 7:28. Vukojevic hooked up with Meireles who had his first shot saved but made good on the rebound and it was 7-1.
Final shots on goal were 40-29 for the Steelheads.
The next Rangers home game is on Tuesday, February 11 at 7:00 pm versus the Erie Otters.ÃÂ The next road game for the Rangers is onÃÂ Sunday, February 9 at 4:05 pm versus the Sarnia Sting.
