
Rangers top Sting, 3-1

Kitchener, ON: Matthew Martello scored his first career OHL goal lifting the Rangers to a 3-1 victory over the Sarnia Sting tonight at The Aud.
Steve Downie opened the scoring with his 26th goal of the season just 1:32 into the game beating Parker VanBuskirk. Thirty-six seconds later the Sting tied the game when Brandon Mashinter beat John Murray to tie the game at 1-1.
After a scoreless second period Matthew Martello notched his first goal at 6:33 on a feed from Matt Halischuk. Peter Tsimikalis put the game away with his 11th goal of the season at 10:15 while on the power play.
John Murray picked up his 28th win of the season turning aside 30 shots. With the win Murray improves to 28-6-1-1 on the season and lowered his GAA to 2.33.
With the Rangers win, coupled with London's loss to Belleville tonight, the Rangers have taken over first place in the Western Conference and moved into a tie for the top spot in the OHL with 63 points.
The Rangers next home game is Friday, January 26th against the Owen Sound Attack. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
