Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Erie, PA (Friday, Jan. 19, 2007) - The St. Michael's Majors were forced to swallow a tough loss in Erie this evening. Unfortunately, they couldn't build on their early lead and the Otters finished strong to win 4-3. That runs the Majors record to 14-29-1-1 on the year.
The Majors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period, courtesy of Matt Caria and Jason Cassidy goals at 9:22 and 10:18. The assists were credited to Jesse Messier and Mike Pelech.
Erie went on a tear from there, notching goals at 14:12 of the 1st period, 2:02 of the 2nd and 3:30 and 6:18 of the final frame. The goalscorers were Nick Palmieri (2), Zack Torquato and Josh Vatri while the assists were credited to Torquato, Kelly Geoffrey (2), Jordan Skellett and Frank Grzeszczak.
Messier got the Majors to within a goal when he notched his first tally with the team with 1:13 remaining in regulation, after receiving passes from Caria and Cassidy. However, they couldn't find the equalizer.
Wayne Savage provided 28 saves for the Majors while Kevin Beech supplied 29 for the Otters. St. Mike's was 0 for 8 on the power-play while Erie was 1 for 7. The game's three stars were Palmieri (1st), Torquato (2nd) and Caria (3rd).
The Majors stay on the road for the next week. They visit the Oshawa Generals on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. and travel to London to battle the Knights next Friday evening (January 26) at 7:30 p.m. They return home to host the Plymouth Whalers on Sunday, January 28 at 2:00 p.m.
