
Otters knock off Majors

Nick Palmieri scored twice to lead the Erie Otters to a 4-3 win over the Toronto St. Michael's Majors in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 3,354 at the Tullio Arena.
Zack Torquato added a goal and an assist for the Otters, who ended a seven-game losing streak with the victory to improve to 10-31-1-2 on the season. Josh Vatri netted the other Otters goal while Kelly Geoffrey collected two assists.
Matt Caria and Jason Cassidy each had a goal and an assist for the Majors, who dropped their ninth straight to sink to 14-29-1-1. Jesse Messier scored the other Toronto goal.
The Majors led 2-1 after one. The two teams were tied at two heading into the third.
Palmieri, with his second of the game, and Vatri struck in the opening seven minutes of the third to lift the Otters into a two-goal lead. Messier struck with 1:13 left to make things close.
The shots on goal were even at 32 as Kevin Beech made 29 saves for his first victory as a member of the Otters.
The three stars of the game were 1. Palmieri; 2. Torquato and 3. Caria.
The Otters return to action tomorrow (Saturday) nigth at 7:30 p.m. at the Tullio Arena when the Mississauga IceDogs present the opposition. One lucky fan will have the chance to win a $1,200 diamond necklace and earring set courtesy of Breakiron Jewelers.
Tickets for the game are on sale now at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Civic Center Box Office. The game can also be heard live on True Oldies 1330 and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m. and seen live on the Image Sports Network starting at 7:30 p.m. The Otters wrap up the weekend Sunday with a matinee game in Guelph against the Storm.
