Calgary Roughnecks News Release

After the completion of the first weekend of NLL lacrosse action (January 8-9, 2011), the weekly NLL honors have been awarded with two Roughnecks receiving awards. Scott Ranger received the top nod for offense, while starting Roughnecks goaltender Mike Poulin was selected for defense.

The Roughnecks played back-to-back games this past weekend, at home against the Bandits on Saturday and at Washington on Sunday, putting them on top of the West with a 2-0 record.

Ranger scored five goals to lead the Roughnecks to a 10-9 victory over Buffalo. He also scored the game winning goal and three assists in a 13-11 win at Washington to cap off the Roughnecks two-win weekend.

Roughneck's goaltender Mike Poulin was named Defensive Player of the Week. Poulin played the full 120 minutes in the opening weekend for the Roughnecks, taking 46 shots and only allowing 10 giving the 'Necks a 10-9 win over Buffalo, followed by 47 shots in a 13-11 win at Washington.

The remaining league honors this week went as follows: Bob Watson (Toronto) - Overall Player of the Week, Paul Rabil (Washington) - Transition, and Aaron Pascas (Toronto) - Rookie.

The NLL Weekly Player Awards are determined each week by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the league's ten member teams.

The Roughnecks next home game is January 15th at the Scotiabank Saddledome against the Colorado Mammoth. 2011 all game day tickets are now on sale. For more information call (403) 294-9244 or visit our website at www.calgaryroughnecks.com.
