
National Lacrosse League Announces Weekly Player Award Winners

Toronto Rock goaltender Bob Watson was named the National Lacrosse League's Overall Player of the Week for Week #1 of the 2011 NLL Season. Watson made 36 saves on 43 shots on goal in a 13-7 win over the Edmonton Rush. Watson only surrendered one goal against on 23 second half shots in the game's third and fourth quarters. The Week #1 awards are for the games played on the league's season opening weekend of January 8th-9th.
Calgary Roughnecks forward Scott Ranger was named Offensive Player of the week. The Roughnecks played back-to-back games this past weekend, at home against the Bandits on Saturday and at Washington on Sunday. Ranger scored five goals to lead the Roughnecks to a 10-9 victory over Buffalo. He also scored the game winning goal and three assists in a 13-11 win at Washington to cap off the Roughnecks two-win weekend.
Roughnecks goaltender Mike Poulin was named Defensive Player of the Week. Poulin played the full 120 minutes in the opening weekend for the Roughnecks, stopping 46 shots in a 10-9 win over Buffalo, followed by 47 shots in a 13-11 win at Washington.
The Transition Player of the Week was Paul Rabil of the Washington Stealth. The Stealth played back-to-back games this past weekend, visiting Colorado on Saturday and at home against Calgary on Sunday. Rabil posted one assist and 12 loose balls in a thrilling 11-10 overtime win over the Mammoth. On Sunday against Calgary, Rabil had two assists and nine loose balls in a 13-11 loss. Rabil finished the weekend with 3 points and 21 loose balls.
Toronto Rock forward Aaron Pascas was named Rookie of the Week. Pascas scored on his first shift and on his first shot of his NLL career. He ended up with two goals and one assist in Toronto's 13-7 victory over Edmonton. He also collected seven loose balls.
The NLL Weekly Player Awards are determined each week by a vote of the General Managers & Head Coaches of the league's ten member clubs.
