San Antonio Rampage News Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Dec. 21, 2014) - The San Antonio Rampage (16-9-2-0) dropped a 3-1 decision to the Charlotte Checkers (11-15-3-0) in a Sunday afternoon matinee game at Time Warner Cable Arena.
The Rampage held the Checkers to just three shots in the opening frame, as both teams were unable to put a dent on the scoreboard before heading into the first intermission.
Phil Di Giuseppe opened the second period scoring to put Charlotte up by one at 6:41 with a breakaway shot to the corner past Dan Ellis in net. Steven Hodges took a wraparound pass from Brett Olson and scored to notch his first professional goal and knot the game at one midway through the stanza. Chad LaRose put the Checkers back up late in the middle frame with a strike to the top shelf.
The Rampage couldn't convert on a late power-play opportunity, and Ben Holmstrom secured the win for Charlotte with an empty-net goal with 11.6 seconds left in the game. Drew MacIntyre stopped 25 of 26 shots to give the Checkers their first win in four games against the Rampage this season.
Making his 18th start of the season, Ellis finished with 12 saves on 15 shots, a season low in shots against.
KEY STAT
In his 20th AHL appearance, Steven Hodges recorded his first professional goal.
San Antonio went 0-for-3 with the man advantage and is now without a power-play tally in their last six games. The Silver and Black killed all four of the Checker's man-advantage opportunities.
LINEUP NOTES
San Antonio's line combinations remained unchanged from Friday night's game. Defenseman Jesse Blacker drew into the lineup, playing in a Rampage uniform for the first time. He skated beside Jonathan Racine as part of San Antonio's third defensive pair.
