Barons Down IceHogs 3-1 to Sweep Series

December 21, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Laurent Brossoit made 34 saves to lead the Oklahoma City Barons to a 3-1 win and two-game weekend sweep of the Rockford IceHogs Sunday at the Cox Convention Center.

With the win, Brossoit's record improved to 8-4 on the season, with the Barons net minder 8-1 in his last nine starts.

Barons forward Josh Winquist netted his first career AHL goal in eight games over the past two seasons.

Curtis Hamilton opened the Barons' scoring at 15:58 of the first period when after his initial shot from the high slot was stopped by IceHogs goalie Scott Darling, Hamilton grabbed his own rebound and fired another shot that sailed past Darling's blocker for a 1-0 Oklahoma City lead.

At 5:28 of the second period, Winquist added to the Barons' lead when he took a pass from Brandon Davidson near the left circle and fired a wrist shot over Darling's glove and into the top-right corner of the Rockford net.

Rockford scored its only goal of the game at 5:54 of the second when Brandon Mashinter grabbed a loose puck in heavy traffic near the Oklahoma City net and, while falling down, flipped a high shot over the outstretched glove of Brossoit to cut the Barons' lead to 2-1.

With 14 seconds remaining in the second period, Andrew Miller gave the Barons another two-goal lead when he threw a wrister from the right boards that deflected off of Darling's blocker and trickled under the IceHogs goalie for a 3-1 Barons lead.

Despite outshooting Oklahoma City 12-5 in the third period and playing much of the game's final four minutes with an extra attacker and an empty net, Rockford was unable to score, and the Barons held on for the 3-1 win.

The Barons' next game is Saturday, Dec. 27 when the team travels to San Antonio to take on the Rampage in a 7 p.m. start at the AT&T Center.
