Ramirez Grand Slam Lifts Pelicans to Victory

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans snagged their third straight win of the series on Friday night in Augusta with a final score of 5-4.

The GreenJackets struck first with a solo home run by Jair Casanova. That 1-0 lead would hold up for Augusta until the fifth inning. The inning started with a single by Andy Garriola. Rafael Morel and Reivaj Garcia followed with back-to-back walks to load the bases. With a full count, Pedro Ramirez then put the Pelicans on top 4-1 with a grand slam to right center field.

Justin Janas added one run to the board for the GreenJackets in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double to score Dawson Dimon. A wild pitch by Scarlyn Lebron would bring Tyler Collins home, making it a 3-4 game with Myrtle Beach still on top.

The Pelicans extended their lead in the sixth inning with a solo home run to right by Parker Chavers. Augusta came within one run in the bottom of the seventh when Justin Janas delivered another RBI to score Ambrioris Tavarez. The 5-4 score would hold through the end of the game and deliver the Pelicans their third win of series.

Nick Hull provided 4.1 innings of work for Myrtle Beach with three earned runs, two walks, and five strike outs. Scarlyn Lebron, Brailyn Marquez, and Scott Kobos came out of the bullpen to complete the game. Lebron is credited with the win bringing his season record to 2-0. Kobos gets the save for the Pelicans, and Owen Murphy takes the loss for Augusta.

Game five of the series between the Birds and the GreenJackets is set for Saturday night at 6:05 p.m.
