Tacoma Rainiers News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The Tacoma Rainiers snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-1 extra-innings win over the Albuquerque Isotopes at Isotopes Park on Thursday.
Tacoma broke open a 1-1 tie with a pair of runs in the top of the 11th inning. Leury Bonilla led off the frame with a double, and then went on to score on a sacrifice bunt hit by James Jones. A throwing error following Jones' bunt allowed the outfielder to reach third base before eventually scoring on a sac fly hit by infielder Ketel Marte.
Rainiers starter Sam Gaviglio carried a no-hitter through five innings until allowing a single to his first batter faced in the sixth. He ended the day holding the Isotopes to one run on two hits through 6.0 innings of work. The right-hander struck out six and walked two in his second turn in the Rainiers rotation.
Reliever Justin Germano (1-1) collected the win after striking out three over a pair of perfect innings in extras. Bullpen mates Logan Bawcom (1.0) and Mark Lowe (2.0) combined to limit Albuquerque to three hits and one walk over 3.0 innings.
Tacoma initially held an early 1-0 lead after Jones lined an RBI single with one out in the third. The advantage disappeared for the Rainiers in the sixth when Isotopes shortstop Cristhian Adames knotted the score at 1-1 with a run-scoring double.
Jesus Montero extending his team-leading hitting streak to eight games with a single that led off the second inning. He finished the day three-for-five, bringing his season batting average up to .394 (13x33).
The Rainiers (3-5) head home to take on the El Paso Chihuahuas (3-4) in their home opener tomorrow, April 17. Left-hander Mike Kickham (0-0, 10.38) gets the nod for Tacoma against the right-handed James Needy (0-0, 12.27) for El Paso. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
