Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers failed to keep pace with the Colorado Springs offense, falling to the Sky Sox 6-3 in front of 2,846 fans at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday. The loss extends the Rainiers recent losing skid to a season-high six games and leaves the club winless over their first five games at home this season.

The Rainiers saw the Sky Sox break open an early 1-1 tie and score five runs over the fourth through the eighth innings en route to Tacoma allowing 12 hits in the outing.

The go-ahead run for Colorado Springs came as result of a Rainiers throwing error in the fourth inning. With one out, catcher Josh Bard threw past third baseman Alex Liddi, allowing infielder Josh Fields to score from third base. Colorado Springs added some insurance run in the top of the next inning following Willy Taveras' solo home run that led off the fifth.

Tacoma answered back with a run in the sixth after Liddi scored when Johan Limonta grounded into a double play, but the Sky Sox responded with three more runs over the seventh and eighth innings.

Dustin Ackley was the standout performer for the Rainiers, ending the night going 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Ackley has now reached base in 19 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Reliever David Aardsma tossed one inning out of the bullpen in the first appearance of a major league rehab stint with the Rainiers. The right-hander allowed two hits in the outing, including a two-run home run to designated hitter Mike Jacobs, and issued a pair of walks.

Tacoma starter Chris Seddon was dealt a loss in his first appearance since being named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week. The left-hander surrendered a season-high three runs, two earned, on seven hits, while walking three and fanning six. Colorado Springs' Greg Reynolds picked up the win in his Triple-A debut after holding the Rainiers to two runs on eight hits over six innings.

The Rainiers (3-10) continue their first homestand of the season at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday for the second game of their four-game series with Colorado Springs. Tacoma sends right-hander Chaz Roe (0-1, 10.57 ERA) to mound to face Sky Sox right-hander Billy Buckner (0-0, 8.00). The game can be heard live on South Sound Sports 850-AM and streamed online at www.tacomarainiers.com.
