OMAHA, Neb. - Two weeks into the 2011 season, the Omaha Storm Chasers are beginning to find their collective groove. Mike Moustakas and David Lough hit the first Chasers home runs at Werner Park, Eric Hosmer and Clint Robinson reached base nine times between them, and the starting pitchers won their third game in a row and fourth in four days in a 10-4 win over Memphis.
The Storm Chasers jumped all over starting and losing pitcher Raul Valdes (1-1) for five runs in the bottom of the first. With one down, the Storm Chasers loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a walk. Robinson ripped a single into left-center to drive in two, Johnny Giavotella followed with a two-run double to deep right and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch.
Kevin Pucetas (2-0) got his first 2011 win as a starter, going five innings while allowing three runs - two earned - on three hits and two walks. He struck out four. The only damage against him came on a Daryl Jones three-run home run immediately after a pair of botched double play attempts. With the victory, the Storm Chasers have wins from starting pitchers in four of their six home games, while on the road they had no starting pitcher victories in eight tries.
In the bottom of the third, Moustakas made history by becoming the first Storm Chasers hitter to hit a home run at the new Werner Park. He was also the last player ever to homer at Rosenblatt Stadium, giving the moment a bit of added significance. Lough later added a long ball of his own, giving him a home run, two triples, two doubles and four singles in six games at Werner Park.
Robinson and Hosmer also continued to sting the baseball. Robinson went 4-for-4 with a walk, raising his average to .404 and his on-base percentage to an even .500. Hosmer went 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored and is now batting .415 on the season.
The Storm Chasers (7-7) will return to action Thursday evening for game three of the four game series with the Redbirds (4-9). Omaha lefthander Danny Duffy will square off with Memphis righthander Lance Lynn. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
