Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers relied on the late inning heroics of Matt Tuiasosopo to claim a 3-2 win over the Reno Aces in front of a sell-out crowd of 7,215 at Cheney Stadium on Friday night.

With the scored tied at 2-2 with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, Tuiasosopo lined a double to right field that scored Luis Jimenenz from second base to put the Rainiers on top for good.

Tacoma looked like they were in trouble early after Reno's Tony Abreu hit a first-inning lead-off home run, but the Rainiers battled back to square the score away at 1-1 following an RBI-single from Ryan Langerhans in the fifth.

Langerhans struck again in the bottom of the seventh after helping the Rainiers battle back from a 2-1 Aces lead with a double that drove in Tuiasosopo to tie the game with two outs.

The outfielder was the only Rainier to turn in a multi-hit effort after collecting three hits with two RBI against Reno on Friday. Langerhans is now riding a 21-game hit streak and has reached base safely in each of his last 27 appearances dating back to June 1.

Reliever Scott Patterson (2-1) tossed two scoreless innings for the Rainiers and allowed just one hit with one strikeout to collect the win. Reno right-hander Esmerling Vasquez (0-1) was dealt the loss after giving up the go-ahead to the Rainiers in the bottom of the eighth.

Tacoma starter Luke French turned in a solid outing and allowed just two runs on six hits over six innings of work with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Rainiers (44-45) return to action on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. to play the third game of their four-game series with the Aces. Right-hander Jarrett Grube (0-1, 7.71) is slated to take the mound for Tacoma against Reno right-hander Armando Galarraga (0-2, 13.86). The game will be broadcast live on South Sound Sports 850-AM and can be streamed online at www.tacomarainiers.com.
